Twinfield Union Wins Carbon Cup in Way-to-Go Challenge

The Vermont Safe Routes to School Resource Center and Way to Go! Vermont partnered to encourage Vermont's K-12 schools to participate in the Way to Go! Clean Commuter Challenge. The Challenge encourages Vermonters to reduce their carbon footprints by walking, biking, carpooling or taking transit instead of a single occupancy vehicles.

This year, 17 schools stepped up for the Challenge, saving an estimated 40,000 lbs of carbon, which is equivalent to over 2,400 miles of vehicle travel. Over 2,600 students participated, comprising over half of all participants in the Challenge. The Carbon Cup is awarded to the school with the highest rate of participation.

Competition for this year's Carbon Cup was fierce. Ten schools recorded participation rates of 70% or more. Twinfield Union came out on top with the highest student participation rate (94%). Twinfield Union also has the highest number of students participate (360). Congratulations to runner up Isle La Motte (93%) and to Hartford Middle school for the second highest number of participating students (278).

Twinfield Union will be honored at the State House on June 11th with Carbon Cup Winners from other categories. Visit the Way to Go Website for more information.
