Winooski Valley Middle School Music Festival

Six Twinfield students were selected to attend the Winooski Valley Middle School Music Festival in Randolph, VT on April 4. The festival is an all-day event that drew students from 11 Central Vermont schools to take part in Chorus, Concert Band, and Orchestra. The day culminated in a fantastic evening concert for over 600 family and friends. Students shown: Erika Petterssen, Anna Davis-Noe, Dakota Brosky, Brittney Duke, Asia Bernatchy, and Sam Carpenter.

Eighth Grade Elder Tea

On March 13th and 14th the 3rd Annual 8th Grade Elder Tea was hosted by 8th grade socials studies classes. The classes were joined by several elders from our communities that had been previously interviewed by students. The conversation at the tea was lively and informative for all. Our guests shared stories and perspectives on childhood, schooling, technology, the American Dream, the future and chores.

Twinfield High School Variety Show

The High School Variety Show is on Thursday, March 29 at 7:00 in TwinSpace. This year the theme is Soundtracks, and the show features lots of familiar music from films, television, and Broadway. Admission is by donation, and refreshments will be sold. All funds raised at the Variety Show go to the music department's Lesson Fund, which supports Twinfield students who can't afford music lessons.

Third and Fourth Graders Celebrate Read Across America

On March 8, 2012 the third and fourth graders celebrated Read Across America.

Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2nd, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school. (NEA: National Education Association)

Our whole day was dedicated to reading and writing, around the theme of Dr. Seuss books. We asked for students to dress up as their favorite character from a Dr. Seuss book for that day.

Canoe Trip Fundraiser Huge Success

The Jimmy Kennedy Breakfast Fundraiser and Silent Auction was a huge success. The 8th Grade Canoe Journey Project would like to thank Jimmy Kennedy for his time and culinary talents. We would also like give a special thank you to Amy Darling and Bronywn Becker for working in our kitchen and the many local business, farmers and craftspeople who donated services and goods to the silent auction. Finally, a big thank you to the parents and our communities for their support of the 8th Grade Canoe Journey Project.

Energy Sleuthers Gather

A group of energy experts, students, teachers and community members gathered on February 20^th after hours in the school library. The purpose of the energy gathering was to determine what electrical loads operated at night and whether in total they equaled approximately 40 kilowatts of power. This esoteric sounding nighttime operation had students prowling the hallways with flashlights, checking classrooms for running appliances, and numerous energy professionals helping the school further manage electrical demand.
